Alejandro Garnacho’s anticipated transfer to Chelsea is progressing swiftly, as the 21-year-old Manchester United forward has expressed a strong preference to join the Blues. The Argentine winger has found himself on the periphery at Old Trafford under the tenure of head coach Ruben Amorim.
Discontent simmered in May when Garnacho was left out of the starting eleven for the Europa League final against Tottenham, prompting him to consider his future options. Following the snub, Garnacho made his feelings known, voicing his frustration publicly after the match. Amorim, in turn, reportedly granted Garnacho the liberty to seek opportunities elsewhere, a gesture made clear to both the player and the squad.
Chelsea have long admired Garnacho’s talents and are now advancing talks to secure his signature. Despite a tempting offer from Bayern Munich, the young Argentine is intent on donning the Chelsea blue, awaiting only the final agreement between the two clubs. While the financial details remain under wraps, Chelsea are hesitant to exceed a £30 million valuation.
Garnacho’s impressive tally of 11 goals and 10 assists from 58 appearances last season underscored his potential, and he was a standout performer in European competitions. Reflecting on his reduced role in the Europa League final, Garnacho remarked, “Throughout the season, I was a core part of the team, yet only played 20 minutes in the final. This experience, alongside the club’s overall situation, will influence my decision. I’ll reassess after the summer break.”
United’s head coach Amorim addressed the media during the club’s pre-season tour in the United States, acknowledging Garnacho’s exceptional ability. “Alejandro is undeniably talented,” Amorim commented. “However, in football, not everything matches up as you’d expect. Garnacho desires a new challenge under different management, which is understandable. We strive to accommodate the needs of the club, coaches, and players, recognising that change is a natural element of the sport.”
Garnacho was noticeably absent from United’s squad during their Premier League opener against Arsenal, joining other notable omissions, including former Chelsea loanee Jadon Sancho.
