Liverpool are preparing to submit a bold £40 million offer for Crystal Palace stalwart Marc Guehi, as the Merseyside club seeks to bolster its defensive ranks this summer. Reports suggest that this offer is being positioned as a ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ deal targeting the highly-rated England international.
The Reds have enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, having successfully acquired talents like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez as part of their strategic reinforcements. The club remains fully supportive of manager Arne Slot, who led Liverpool to a remarkable Premier League triumph in his debut season at Anfield.
Still keen to enhance their defensive options, Liverpool have identified Guehi as a key target to provide competition alongside Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. The latter has been subject to interest from Real Madrid.
Crystal Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner, recently demurred from commenting on the futures of individual players, including Guehi, following their FA Cup triumph. Glasner stated, “I don’t want to comment on individual players. We could talk about Marc Guehi, Dean Henderson, Adam Wharton, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Daniel Munoz, and Ismaila Sarr, who have all had an incredible season for us. We won’t sell all of them.”
The Sun has reported Liverpool’s intent to make a definitive £40 million offer for Guehi in the coming weeks. The Reds are aware that Guehi’s contract at Selhurst Park is nearing its final year, placing Palace at risk of losing the defender for nothing next summer.
Despite interest from other Premier League giants such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle, Guehi appears open to a move to Liverpool, preferring to leave negotiations to the clubs involved without causing any unrest.
In pursuit of defensive reinforcements, Liverpool are also considering other prospects. Journalist David Lynch has highlighted the club’s focus on acquiring a youthful centre-back with significant potential. Although Manchester United secured Leny Yoro, Liverpool’s sights remain set on options like Dean Huijsen, who recently opted for Real Madrid over the Reds.
Other centre-back prospects include Parma’s Giovanni Leoni and Wolfsburg’s Konstantinos Koulierakis, who have reportedly caught Liverpool’s interest as part of their continued defensive search.
