In a rousing endorsement for Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, club legend John Terry has boldly proclaimed the young midfielder as the “best in world football” in his No. 10 position following the Blues’ emphatic 2-0 victory over Everton.
Chelsea secured a crucial win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Palmer and Malo Gusto finding the target in the first half. Everton, unable to capitalise on their chances, saw the game slip beyond their grasp. Palmer, returning to form after a lengthy injury layoff, made headlines with his standout performance, drawing praise from Terry.
Speaking on his TikTok channel, the former Chelsea captain said, “A significant victory for Chelsea returning to winning ways—those three points were absolutely vital. Having Cole Palmer in the side, operating in the No. 10 role, was a delight. I’m hard-pressed to find anyone in world football who plays the role better than Palmer. His movement, constantly on the half-turn seeking space, spells torment for defenders.”
He added, “It was fantastic seeing him back in the starting XI and getting on the scoresheet. The clean sheet was well deserved, with Robert Sanchez showing solid form. Long may that continue.”
On the BBC’s Match of the Day, ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, however, named Malo Gusto the standout performer against the Toffees. “After recent setbacks, this was a massive win for Chelsea. Despite some discontent around the club, the positives are numerous,” noted Murphy. “Malo Gusto, likely not one we’d pick as the standout, delivered an exceptional display, especially with his assist for Palmer.”
Murphy continued, “We’ve praised Reece James many times for his technical ability and passing range. However, Malo Gusto possesses a similar skill set. With both capable of playing at right back and in midfield, Chelsea are fortunate. It’s a managerial conundrum to balance their talents, but Gusto’s willingness to advance and find dangerous areas is a valuable asset.”
In stark contrast to the praise, Chelsea’s manager Enzo Maresca delivered a startling post-match comment, labelling the past 48 hours as his “worst” since arriving at the club. “The players’ eagerness to learn has been phenomenal, and that’s why I commend them, particularly after such a challenging week. Since I’ve been here, these last two days have been the toughest due to lack of support.”
