Chelsea’s young prodigy, Estevao, is making waves beyond the Premier League with his stellar performances for Brazil. The 18-year-old rising star netted his fourth goal for the national side in their recent 2-0 triumph over Senegal, prompting manager Carlo Ancelotti to laud him as a cornerstone of Brazil’s footballing future.
Despite being in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, Estevao has already logged four goals and an assist for Chelsea in just 657 minutes on the pitch. His recent strike for the Selecao came courtesy of a skilful left-foot finish, setting Brazil on the path to victory before Manchester United’s Casemiro sealed the result.
A recent knock to Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes put a slight damper on the match, but Estevao’s standout performance shone through, highlighting the remarkable potential and adeptness instilled by Ancelotti’s training demands, particularly on pressing. Brazilian outlet GE Globo commented on the impact of Ancelotti’s guidance, noting, “Estevao’s presence was instrumental in disrupting Senegal’s rhythm, showcasing his invaluable contribution in the first half.”
Ancelotti was effusive in his praise for the teenage sensation post-match: “Estevao possesses a prodigious talent; to perform at this level at his age is outstanding. His finishing is exceptional, and coupled with his magical flair, he demonstrates a commendable work ethic. With Estevao, Brazil’s future is assured.”
Despite starting only seven matches for Chelsea under manager Enzo Maresca, who routinely rotates his squad, Estevao’s impactful performances have not gone unnoticed. Ancelotti expressed no worries regarding his limited game time, emphasising Estevao’s ability to showcase his prowess irrespective of minutes played.
“Even with brief appearances at Chelsea, you can witness Estevao’s quality – Brazil and Chelsea are fortunate to have him,” Ancelotti remarked.
Maresca echoed these sentiments following Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Wolves, where Estevao’s energy and skill made an indelible mark upon his introduction. The Chelsea boss acknowledged the importance of facilitating his adaptation from Brazil, with plans to gradually increase his starting roles.
Estevao’s growing reputation has seen his value soar to £104 million, according to the CIES Football Observatory, a projection Maresca deems justifiable. “His potential is evident. Estevao will be an extraordinary player for us over the next five to ten years,” Maresca asserted convincingly.
