Manchester United are poised to finalise two goalkeeper transfers imminently following club legend Gary Neville’s sharp criticism of Altay Bayindir’s recent display. Bayindir’s continued selection in the Red Devils’ starting XI by manager Ruben Amorim has come under scrutiny, especially after Man United’s sluggish season start, with a loss to Arsenal followed by a draw against Fulham.
The pressure mounts on Amorim, whose task to restore the club’s fortunes remains daunting after last season’s 15th-place finish. Andre Onana, another goalkeeper under the spotlight, failed to deliver last term due to several mishaps, paving the way for Bayindir’s early-season appearances.
However, Bayindir’s performances haven’t inspired confidence, with Neville expressing concern on Sky Sports over the Turkish international’s handling during set-pieces. A blunder at a Fulham corner almost cost United dearly, prompting Neville to remark, “It’s not a good look for Bayindir – United need to sort this as it is not going to go away. At 27, he’s not young for a ‘keeper, and it puts pressure on your defence when your ‘keeper is flapping like that.”
Reacting to the draw at Craven Cottage, Amorim defended his selection process, emphasising, “I am focused on our goalkeepers… I look at the amount of training, pre-season games, and decide who is best to use.”
In light of recent performances, Football Insider reports United are close to concluding two goalkeeper deals. One of their current shot-stoppers is on the brink of exit, while the club expects to secure Senne Lammens from Antwerp before the transfer window shuts.
The likely departures could involve either Onana or Bayindir, with Tom Heaton set to remain as third-choice, and Lammens touted as a long-term investment to provide competition for the number one jersey.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that negotiations with Antwerp continue, “Manchester United remain focused on the opportunity to bring in a new goalkeeper before the end of the window. The player they want is Senne Lammens at Royal Antwerp.”
Romano highlighted that Antwerp demands around €25 million for Lammens, underscoring active discussions over the potential acquisition. However, contrary to rumours, Onana is expected to remain at Old Trafford despite Lammens’ anticipated arrival.
