As the transfer window edges towards its twilight days, Newcastle United find themselves at the heart of a whirlwind of activity that could result in a substantial revamp of their striking options.
The Magpies, under the stewardship of Eddie Howe, have reportedly been informed that a £50 million offer for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is poised to be accepted as they line up a significant double acquisition totalling £110 million.
This summer’s transfer dealings have posed numerous challenges for Newcastle, as they’ve seen several high-profile targets evade their grasp. Adding to their woes is the potential departure of star striker Alexander Isak, who is rumoured to be on Liverpool’s radar.
While Newcastle are reportedly eager to retain Isak’s services, it’s suggested that they might be willing to part with him for the right price, provided they’ve secured adequate replacements. Their pursuit has already seen them miss out on the likes of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Benjamin Sesko, and Hugo Ekitike.
Nonetheless, the Brentford outcast Yoane Wissa remains firmly in their sights. According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Newcastle are gearing up to make another move for the forward after seeing an earlier £40 million bid rejected by the London club. O’Rourke reports that Wissa, whose contract with Brentford runs until 2026, is keen on a switch to St James’ Park.
“Brentford have already turned down a third bid of around £40 million,” O’Rourke explained, adding that the London club are holding firm for a package exceeding £50 million before releasing the player. “Wissa has his heart set on joining Newcastle.”
The Magpies’ ambitions don’t stop there. Express & Star’s Liam Keen reveals that Newcastle have already “agreed personal terms” with Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, a player valued at £60 million. While Larsens remains professionally reserved, Keen states, “Larsen has agreed personal terms and, should the opportunity surface, he would be interested in the move.”
This follows Wolves’ significant investment in the striker, having shelled out a £2.5 million loan fee followed by a permanent deal worth £23 million last summer. Despite this, it appears a substantial offer from Newcastle could persuade Wolves to part ways with their prized asset, potentially forming a formidable attacking duo at Tyneside. Negotiations are ongoing, setting up a thrilling conclusion to Newcastle’s summer transfer saga.
