Manchester United appear to be nearing a comprehensive agreement with Serie A giants AC Milan over the prospective transfer of Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish striker is poised for direct discussions with Manchester United officials on Tuesday, aimed at finalising the details of his potential departure.
This move comes hot on the heels of United’s high-profile acquisition of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for a substantial £74m, forming a formidable attacking unit alongside summer signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Despite expressing his desire to “fight” for his spot, Hojlund now seems set to be the one ushered out of the Theatre of Dreams as the Red Devils seek to balance their books.
Renowned transfer guru Ben Jacobs reported on Sunday that United have explicitly informed Hojlund he must seek pastures new to secure regular playing time this season. While the club favours an outright sale, a loan deal remains a possibility. Milan, reportedly, are prepared to comply with United’s £40m asking price through a loan arrangement with a purchase option.
Italian sports outlet Calciomercato has disclosed that the two clubs are on the cusp of sealing the deal, with only the specifics of the buy option left to resolve. Negotiations thus far have seen agreement on a loan structure with a redemption right and a £6m loan fee. However, United set the purchase option at £40m, while Milan opt for £30m. A compromise, as is customary in such dealings, might soon emerge.
Additionally, former United stalwart Mikaël Silvestre has voiced caution over Hojlund’s exit. With Marcus Rashford no longer an option and alternatives like Joshua Zirkzee offering a different style, Silvestre advises maintaining competition and quality within the squad before any hasty decisions over Hojlund’s future are made.
Stay tuned for more updates as Manchester United continue their summer dealings and strategise ahead of the forthcoming Premier League campaign.
