Liverpool’s transfer activity this summer is showing no signs of slowing as speculation mounts over a potential move for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, even as the club finalises a deal for Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ekitike has touched down in Liverpool, with his transfer nearing completion following a medical, and fans are eagerly anticipating an official announcement soon. This marks another strategic signing by Liverpool, whose manager, Arne Slot, has already made significant acquisitions including Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong after clinching the Premier League title in his debut season.
Despite Liverpool’s keen interest in Isak, Newcastle, who secured a Champions League spot by finishing fifth in the Premier League last season, are reportedly reluctant to let go of the Swedish international. However, Liverpool have not been deterred, and speculation persists that a £120 million bid for Isak could still be on the cards.
Renowned transfer journalist, Graeme Bailey, hinted at the possibility of a deal being struck, elaborating that Liverpool are persistent. Speaking with Rousing The Kop, Bailey revealed, “Liverpool aren’t going away. They’re prepared to make their move should an opportunity arise, having already indicated their willingness to pay £120 million.”
Meanwhile, Charles Watts, an Arsenal journalist, noted that while Isak was on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist, Arsenal were never realistically in the running due to the financial demands of such a transfer. Watts argued that Newcastle’s Champions League qualification made any potential move to Arsenal even more impractical.
The Reds have also received a boost in their defensive options, as reports from GiveMeSport suggest Crystal Palace are now considering offers for England international Marc Guehi. As Liverpool aim to strengthen their backline, particularly to support Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, a move for Guehi seems increasingly probable.
As the transfer window progresses, Liverpool fans remain on tenterhooks, with the club’s ambitious spending and high-profile targets sparking excitement for the campaign ahead.
