In an audacious attempt to secure their dream striker this summer, Liverpool have reportedly had a staggering £121 million bid for Alexander Isak turned down by Newcastle United. The Magpies, steadfast in their resolve, have declared their star forward non-transferable, amid persistent interest from other top clubs.
Newcastle seemingly dodged a bullet, thinking Isak’s future was secured after a £70 million bid for Hugo Ekitike, which in turn prompted Liverpool to turn their attentions to the Eintracht Frankfurt forward. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano disclosed on Thursday that Liverpool have actively initiated discussions with Frankfurt for Ekitike. Romano took to X stating: “Understand Liverpool are advancing today in club to club talks with Eintracht for Hugo Ekitike. While Isak deal hinges on Newcastle’s definitive decision, as they maintain a not-for-sale stance… Liverpool also progressing on both club and player side for Ekitike.”
The Magpies, fresh from clinching a Champions League berth with a commendable fifth-place finish in the Premier League, have consistently affirmed their intention to retain Isak this transfer window.
In a nod to the uncertain state of affairs, Romano has observed Isak’s composure amidst the speculation. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano noted, “From what I’m hearing, Alexander Isak is very calm. He understands Newcastle’s desire to retain him and is aware of the lucrative contract being prepared. Concurrently, he is intrigued by Liverpool’s ambitious project.”
Further complicating matters, Spanish periodical Fichajes reports that Liverpool’s formidable €140 million bid was promptly dismissed by the Magpies, underscoring Isak’s status as ‘non-transferable’. Yet, speculation refuses to fade, as Italian journo Gianluca Di Marzio highlights Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal’s interest in the Swedish striker. Managed by Simone Inzaghi, Al Hilal are contemplating a substantial bid which could sway both Newcastle and Isak, despite their shared ownership under the PIF umbrella.
As the saga unfolds, all eyes remain on the Magpies as they attempt to fend off relentless suitors seeking to pry away their prized asset.
