In the latest twist to the summer transfer saga, Manchester United have significantly increased their offer for Brentford’s dynamic forward, Bryan Mbeumo, with a revised bid reported to be in the region of £60 million. United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, is determined to rebuild his squad following a dismal Premier League campaign, compounded by a bitter defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
Having already secured the services of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a £62.5 million deal, United are keen to further bolster their attacking options ahead of their preseason preparations commencing on July 7. Initial negotiations with Brentford saw a £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons offer rejected, prompting the Red Devils to return with an improved proposition.
However, they face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by Thomas Frank, Mbeumo’s former boss at Brentford. The Cameroonian international’s contract with the Bees is set to expire next summer, though it includes an option for a one-year extension. Frank’s move to Spurs adds an intriguing dimension to the pursuit, even as Mbeumo has expressed his interest in a switch to Old Trafford.
Brentford are in no rush to sell and are prepared to demand their full asking price. Prior to his departure to Tottenham, Frank emphasised Mbeumo’s value, stating, “If he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It’s a lot. Mucho. Really a lot.” He further highlighted Mbeumo’s exceptional contributions to the team, noting, “How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists plus his work ethic and character. All these things mean that he is a good player.”
As the transfer window progresses, all eyes will be on United and Spurs, as the two Premier League giants vie for Mbeumo’s signature in what promises to be one of the summer’s most captivating transfer sagas.
