The iconic Arsenal figure, Ian Wright, has openly asserted that Viktor Gyokeres is on a different plane compared to Benjamin Sesko, expressing concerns about the recent Manchester United acquisition’s past performances.
This summer, Arsenal and Manchester United both set their sights on burgeoning talents Gyokeres and Sesko. The Gunners made the early move, securing Gyokeres after a thorough evaluation, leaving Manchester United with Sesko as their feasible option, following Ruben Amorim’s protégé’s absence from the market.
On The Overlap, Wright didn’t hold back, stating: “You look at Sesko and he scored 13 goals in 38 games in the German league, while [Omar] Marmoush left in [January] and had 15. That indicates, from a striker’s perspective, Sesko should be netting more at that level. He’s now at United, and I sense Gyokeres, with his immense talent and physique, is operating on a superior level. I predict 15 goals for him.”
Wright voiced his fears, “A tally of 13 in a full season is worrying… What if Sesko managed only 10 goals in the Premier League? You raised an eyebrow at the mention of Gyokeres and 10 goals, yet now consider Sesko and the same figure.”
Gyokeres has had an exceptionally fruitful couple of campaigns with Sporting CP, finding the net 58 times across all competitions last season. Conversely, Sesko’s return was 21 goals, though it’s pertinent to note the difference in competitive calibre between Portuguese and German football.
Remarkably, Gyokeres struck six goals in eight Champions League outings, outperforming Sesko in the same span, inclusive of a masterful hat-trick against Manchester City – an indication of his readiness for the Premier League stage. Gyokeres keenly anticipates replicating such scoring feats in England.
