In a move that could considerably shake up the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly tabled a £60 million bid for West Ham United’s forward, Jarrod Bowen. The London-based clubs find themselves at opposite ends of the Premier League table, with Spurs enjoying a resurgent season under the guidance of new head coach Thomas Frank, currently sitting third, whilst the Hammers languish in 19th place.
Tottenham’s attacking prowess has been evident, matching the goal tally of top clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea, each netting 17 times so far this campaign. Yet, it appears Frank is keen on further sharpening his side’s strike force, despite Micky van der Ven and Richarlison both contributing three goals this season.
The Spanish outlet, Fichajes, has asserted that the North London club views Bowen as a significant target to enhance their attacking options. Bowen himself has found the back of the net three times for West Ham, but with the club struggling in the relegation zone, Spurs may find the opportunity ripe for negotiation.
The £60 million offer reflects Tottenham’s intent to bolster their squad; however, it’s suggested that West Ham may not dismiss the proposition outright, especially if the player’s inclination is towards departing the current London project. The deal is clouded with speculation, with a January move anticipated but likely to exclude loan options, as the figures involved are seen as a prerequisite for serious negotiations.
For Bowen, a decision looms on whether to leave the stability of West Ham for the potentially heightened pressure and ambition at Spurs. Whilst the allure of playing at a higher level is tempting, the transition demands considerable contemplation given his current contract situation.
In other transfer news, Tottenham are also eyeing up Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta. Despite his impressive form, with 17 goals over 46 appearances last season, a winter move seems implausible due to Palace’s resolve to retain him at least until the end of the current season.
