Nottingham Forest recently experienced a managerial shake-up, with Evangelos Marinakis, the club’s owner, opting for a change in leadership. Following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo, the club swiftly appointed former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou.
Nuno, who took the helm from Steve Cooper at the close of the 2023 season, garnered acclaim for exceeding expectations. He steered Forest to Premier League safety during the 2023/24 campaign and secured a remarkable seventh-place finish in 2024/25, earning the team a spot in European competition. However, despite these impressive achievements, rumours surfaced of a rift between Nuno and Forest executives, Evangelos Marinakis and Edu, ultimately leading to his dismissal.
As Forest moved to appoint Nuno’s successor, names such as Jose Mourinho, Marco Silva, and Oliver Glaser were circulated. Yet, it is understood that Postecoglou emerged as their chosen candidate, having now committed to a two-year contract. Intriguingly, prior to appointing Postecoglou, Forest reportedly pursued Rayo Vallecano’s manager Inigo Perez, identified as ‘one of their most popular’ options. According to Spanish outlet AS, Perez declined the Premier League side’s offer, stating that the timing and conditions were not conducive to his current plans.
Upon confirming Postecoglou’s appointment, Evangelos Marinakis shared insights into the decision: “We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies. His experience at the highest level, combined with his eagerness to build something special at Forest, makes him an exceptional choice for guiding us toward achieving our ambitions.”
Marinakis further elaborated on the club’s vision: “Having been promoted to the Premier League and building season after season to reach European football, we must now compete with the elite and vie for honours. Ange has the credentials and the track record to help us succeed in this ambitious journey.”
Thus, Nottingham Forest embarks on a new chapter under the stewardship of Postecoglou, as they aim to consolidate their place among England’s footballing elite.
