In an attempt to bolster their attacking options, Newcastle United have tabled a fresh bid for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, who has expressed a desire to make the switch to St James’ Park. This comes amidst ongoing negotiations as the Magpies endeavour to retain star man Alexander Isak.
Wissa, notably absent from Brentford’s opening fixture, has a contract that runs until 2026. However, Newcastle’s latest offer, believed to be £35 million with potential add-ons of £5 million, is putting pressure on the West London club, especially given Wissa’s apparent unwillingness to feature under the new regime led by manager Keith Andrews.
Transfer expert Ben Jacobs reports that Wissa has communicated his eagerness for a move to Tyneside. Andrews, speaking ahead of the Bees’ 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, reaffirmed his intentions to retain the player. “I’m very clear on the situation,” Andrews stated. “As a head coach, I want Yoane in the building. I have a very good relationship with him, but we have to focus on the players willing to play.”
The ongoing saga could set off a chain reaction, potentially facilitating Isak’s rumoured transfer to Liverpool. However, both Wissa and Isak’s methods, supposedly striking to force moves, have not sat well with club legend Alan Shearer. “I don’t like players that have got a contract and are refusing to train or play,” Shearer remarked on ‘The Rest is Football’ podcast. “You still have a duty to the other players and to the football club to train and play.”
The unfolding scenario underscores the complexities of modern transfers, with the football world eagerly watching to see if Newcastle can finally clinch the deal for Wissa before another domino falls in the transfer market.
