A potential twist in the transfer saga for highly sought-after striker Benjamin Sesko could see Newcastle United emerge as the frontrunners over Manchester United, according to reports. Newcastle are poised to make a substantial offer for the RB Leipzig star, putting them in a competitive position in this summer’s transfer market.
The Red Devils, having already boosted their attacking options with the acquisitions of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, as well as securing the services of Paraguayan prospect Diego Leon, are still in the hunt for key signings. Their transfer wishlist prominently features a centre-forward, defensive midfielder, and goalkeeper. While both RB Leipzig’s Sesko and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins have been earmarked as potential targets, the exact direction of their pursuit remains undecided.
Renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano disclosed recently that Manchester United are set for internal discussions this week about the potential capture of Sesko, acknowledging the financial complexities of the deal. Romano explains, “Next week holds significant importance for Benjamin Sesko’s future. Newcastle are backing their interest with a hefty contract proposal and are ready to engage RB Leipzig. Manchester United, meanwhile, continue to deliberate on their strategy for Sesko, aware of the gentleman’s agreement which could affect his transfer valuation, pegged at €70m to €80m, plus add-ons.”
Despite reports earlier painting Manchester United as the preferred destination for Sesko, Newcastle’s resolve sees them emerge as ‘the most serious contender’, with Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna claiming the Magpies’ initial bid is set between €72m and €74m for the Slovenian talent.
Aouna elaborated via social media platform X, asserting Newcastle’s ambition in rectifying their summer transfer woes. Following unsuccessful pursuits of Hugo Ekitike and being outmanoeuvred by Liverpool and Manchester City for other targets, the Magpies are intent on landing Sesko in a bid to strengthen their squad significantly. As the transfer window edges towards its conclusion, RB Leipzig brace for heightened interest in their invaluable striker.
