Manchester United have set their sights on a significant overhaul this summer, with an eye-watering transfer budget now confirmed as they aim to secure not one, but two Brazilian stars currently plying their trade in the Premier League.
In the wake of last year’s offensive boost, which saw the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, the focus now shifts to reinforcing the midfield. The co-owners of the Red Devils, INEOS, alongside Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are gearing up for a midfield transformation.
With Casemiro set to bid farewell at the season’s close, recent reports from Spanish outlet AS have spotlighted his endorsement of fellow Brazilian, Bruno Guimaraes, currently at Newcastle, as an ideal successor.
Transfer guru Ben Jacobs added further details, stating, “Casemiro’s advocacy for Bruno Guimaraes is indeed accurate. Guimaraes is quite amenable to remaining in the Premier League, despite his projected loyalty and passion for Newcastle. There’s consistently been a willingness to entertain intra-league moves.”
Additionally, whispers around Old Trafford suggest more to the ongoing links with Tonali, while Elliott Anderson remains another prime target, should a transfer be feasible.
According to Caught Offside, informal discussions have already commenced regarding a possible acquisition of Guimaraes, viewing him as the perfect Casemiro replacement. The publication further disclosed that United might allocate a hefty £80 million of their substantial £230 million-plus budget to secure his services.
Yet, Guimaraes isn’t the only Brazilian in United’s scope. As reported by Brazilian outlet NT Vascaínos, the club is leading the chase for Andrey Santos. The 21-year-old midfield prodigy, emerging from Vasco da Gama’s esteemed academy, is currently with Chelsea but seemingly not irreplaceable. United’s interest heightens as reports suggest Chelsea could seek as much as £50 million for his departure.
The young midfielder’s transfer could also benefit Vasco da Gama financially through a 2.5% sell-on clause, highlighting the intricacies of this potential summer deal. Meanwhile, Juventus also reportedly have an eye on Santos, adding a competitive edge to United’s pursuit.
