In a surprising development, Manchester City’s goalkeeping stalwart Ederson has reportedly expressed his desire to depart the club this summer. As per reports, the Brazilian shot-stopper has informed manager Pep Guardiola of his wish to join Turkish giants Galatasaray, as he enters the final year of his contract.
The Citizens have already been active in the transfer market, securing six new additions including Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, James Trafford, Marcus Bettinelli, and Sverre Nypan. However, Guardiola seems intent on reinforcing his squad further, particularly after a lacklustre 2024/25 campaign that saw City finish third in the Premier League without any silverware.
City have already sanctioned a loan move for Jack Grealish to Everton, with an option to buy, while Tottenham are reportedly keen on snapping up Savinho. Notable departures this summer have included Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Maximo Perrone, and Yan Couto.
The situation with Ederson has opened the door for City’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, initial talks between Donnarumma’s camp and Manchester City have been positive, contingent on Ederson’s move to Galatasaray materialising.
Furthermore, Spanish outlet Fichajes claims City are preparing for a substantial €150 million (£129m) spending spree, targeting Real Madrid’s Rodrygo alongside Donnarumma. It’s understood that City are prepared to lodge a €100 million offer for Rodrygo, comprising €80 million upfront with an additional €20 million in add-ons, waiting on selling Savinho to fully commit to the Brazilian winger.
As Guardiola and his team gear up for the season ahead, the potential arrivals of Donnarumma and Rodrygo signal a bold statement of intent from the Manchester club. With negotiations underway, City fans will be eagerly anticipating how this transfer window unfolds.
