Reports have surfaced indicating that Liverpool are on the brink of securing a significant signing as they aim to reinforce their squad for both the January transfer window and the following summer. Following a staggering summer outlay exceeding £400 million, aimed at solidifying their reign under the management of head coach Arne Slot, Liverpool are looking to maintain their competitive edge after clinching their 20th Premier League title last season.
The Reds’ ambitious summer spree included record-breaking acquisitions with players like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz being brought in, alongside significant signings such as Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Giovanni Leoni. Despite these marquee transfers, Liverpool’s performance has notably dipped post-overhaul, with the Merseyside giants currently languishing in eighth position in the Premier League standings.
The upheaval, aimed at offsetting departures of key talents like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz, has thus far failed to yield the desired on-field results, propelling the club back into the transfer market. A principal focus is set to be fortifying the defence, particularly given the uncertain future of Ibrahima Konate, who is entering the final year of his contract, alongside Virgil van Dijk’s waning performances as he nears the twilight of his career.
A prime target for Liverpool is Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi. While a prospective move for Guehi collapsed during the summer due to Crystal Palace’s inability to find a replacement, journalist Bruno Alemany reports that Liverpool are poised to secure Guehi’s services on a free transfer next year, with a deal “pretty much wrapped up,” despite interest from heavyweights such as Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.
Additionally, Liverpool are eyeing a long-term successor for Mohamed Salah, with Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo emerging as a viable candidate. Semenyo has been in excellent form this season, boasting nine goal involvements in eleven Premier League matches. The promising winger, reportedly possessing a £65m release clause, has also attracted attention from Arsenal and Manchester United, though Liverpool are said to be the ‘only favourites’ to capture his signature next year.
