Liverpool are reportedly setting their sights on Inter Milan’s left-back, Federico Dimarco, as they plan for a future without Andy Robertson. The Reds bolstered their left-side defence in the previous transfer window by acquiring Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for a fee of approximately £40 million. As Kerkez establishes himself at Anfield, Robertson’s role has become increasingly marginalised, foretelling a potential departure when his contract concludes at season’s end.
Interest from Tottenham emerged during the January window, with speculation swirling about a move south. Yet, the veteran Scot stayed put, largely due to Spurs’ own battles against Premier League relegation, which loom large as a possibility. Robertson, speaking to the press, remained resolute about his unwavering commitment to Liverpool amidst this speculation:
“Yes, there was interest from Tottenham, and discussions took place,” Robertson remarked. “But the decision was to stay here at Liverpool, where my dedication has been for nearly a decade. My focus never wavered; I was always committed to supporting the team on and off the pitch.”
Meanwhile, reports from Spain suggest Liverpool have already marked Dimarco as the prime candidate to step into Robertson’s shoes. Dimarco’s attacking prowess and crossing ability make him an attractive prospect for adapting to English football’s demands. However, Inter Milan appear keen to fend off interest, with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Real Madrid all monitoring the Italian’s situation.
Should Robertson’s exit be finalised, Liverpool are expected to step up their pursuit of Dimarco, potentially negotiating a transfer with the San Siro outfit despite the latter’s desire to secure the full-back on a new deal.
