Xavi Hernández, the renowned former manager of Barcelona, has indicated his openness to taking the helm at either Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur, though there are obstacles to a move to Old Trafford.
Xavi, who clinched the La Liga title during his tenure with Barcelona, has been out of a managerial role since his departure from the Spanish club at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season. Recent reports suggest he is poised to make a managerial comeback, with the Premier League being a potential destination.
This summer could present a multitude of opportunities for Xavi, as numerous managerial positions are expected to become available within the Premier League. Manchester United and Spurs are among the clubs reportedly considering the former Barcelona boss.
Manchester United, having recently parted ways with Ruben Amorim and appointed Michael Carrick as their interim manager, are anticipated to seek a more seasoned replacement come summer. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s current head coach, Thomas Frank, is rumoured to be under pressure, possibly paving the way for a new appointment.
According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Xavi has “opened the door” to both Man Utd and Spurs, and is being considered as an “intriguing option” for both clubs.
“Certainly, he’s an interesting option for Manchester United and Tottenham, given his illustrious CV from his time at Barcelona,” O’Rourke remarked to Football Insider. “He may well be interested in transitioning to the Premier League, joining either Manchester United or Tottenham.”
Despite Xavi’s illustrious reputation, O’Rourke cautions that he may not top the list of candidates for the Manchester United position. “While Xavi is a prominent name, and his free-agent status makes him attractive, United are likely looking at several other managers,” O’Rourke explained.
Reports indicate that while Xavi’s attractive style of play would suit either club, other managerial candidates might currently be ahead in the running for the United role.
From both clubs’ perspectives, securing a manager of Xavi’s calibre would undoubtedly make a statement, though navigating the hurdles in his path to the Premier League remains a task for any aspiring suitor.
