Chelsea are poised for a busy transfer period, with plans to finalise several new signings despite an already hectic summer that has seen close to 20 deals, mostly departures. Among the high-profile exits, Noni Madueke’s switch to Arsenal headlines the list, following similar deals involving players such as Joao Felix, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Djorde Petrovic. These sales have balanced the financial scales despite substantial acquisitions like Joao Pedro, Jorrel Hato, and Jamie Gittens. Recently, the combined £40 million move of Armando Broja and Lesley Ugochukwu to Burnley is set to bolster Chelsea’s transfer coffers, facilitating imminent signings.
Negotiations are underway for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho to join the Blues at Stamford Bridge. While discussions with RB Leipzig for Simons appear more advanced compared to those with Manchester United concerning Garnacho, circumstances could soon favour the latter. Amidst these potential transfers, Chelsea are also considering a defensive addition to compensate for Levi Colwill’s injury, yet a return for Marc Guehi seems unlikely.
Guehi’s Prospective Move to Liverpool
The Telegraph reports that despite Colwill’s knee injury, Chelsea are prioritising other targets, placing Liverpool in an advantageous position to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. While the FA Cup winners’ demand remains undisclosed, it’s anticipated to be significant due to Guehi’s contract expiring in 12 months. The recent signing of Jorrel Hato may influence Chelsea’s decision, as alternatives like Benoit Badiashile are available to adapt to that defensive position upon recovery. Nonetheless, another defensive addition should not be discounted.
Interestingly, should Guehi transfer to Anfield, Chelsea stand to gain financially through a 20 per cent sell-on clause originally part of his sale to Crystal Palace. An agreement in the realm of £50 million could therefore yield Chelsea a £10 million windfall.
