Arsenal appear to be nearing the acquisition of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, with a medical examination already arranged as discussions progress over an €80 million transfer. The north London club is reportedly optimistic about resolving remaining hurdles related to bonus payments.
This summer, Arsenal have been assertive in the transfer market, successfully signing Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard. The Gunners are also on the verge of confirming deals for Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera.
Initially weighing their options, sporting director Andrea Berta has led negotiations for both Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but Arsenal have determined Gyokeres as their primary target. Previous attempts to close the deal had hit a snag over fee disagreements with Sporting.
Despite rumours of a potential collapse, renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano assured fans that the deal remains on course. Romano noted: “Talks between Arsenal and Sporting continue, aiming to bridge the small valuation gap. Progress is underway.”
Romano further elaborated: “Gyokeres is clear in his intentions. He’s absent from Sporting training and desires exclusively to join Arsenal, seeing his journey with Sporting as complete. A five-year contract until 2030 has been agreed upon with the Gunners.”
Earlier reports confirmed Gyokeres rebuffing more lucrative offers from Saudi clubs to fulfil his ambition of playing under Mikel Arteta. Romano had anticipated the deal’s finalisation following intensive meetings over the weekend, supported by his agents’ willingness to lower their commission for the cause.
However, discrepancies over an additional €10 million contingent on objectives briefly stalled proceedings. Nevertheless, optimism prevails as Arsenal await a breakthrough, hopefully ensuring Gyokeres’ presence for their upcoming tour of the Far East.
Arsenal’s meticulous negotiations have reportedly concluded with an agreement to pay a total of approximately €80 million. This includes suggested adjustments to performance-related bonuses. As things stand, Gyokeres is expected in London for his medical this weekend, with the Gunners eager to integrate him into their pre-season preparations.
