Arsenal are pushing ahead with plans to bolster their attacking options, with Real Madrid’s Rodrygo firmly in their sights. Reports suggest that Xabi Alonso, the current manager of Los Blancos, has given his blessing for the Brazilian forward to consider his options elsewhere, including a potential switch to North London.
The Gunners, who made waves in the summer transfer window with a spending spree exceeding £250m, continue to enhance their squad depth under Mikel Arteta’s stewardship. This reinforcement strategy has propelled them to the summit of the Premier League table, creating a four-point cushion over Manchester City and widening the gap to eight points over last season’s champions, Liverpool.
Determined to maintain their position and end a title drought dating back to the 2003-04 ‘Invincibles’ era, Arsenal’s board is keen to act decisively in the transfer market. Strengthening their attacking lineup remains a top priority following whispers from Spain that Xabi Alonso is prepared to part ways with Rodrygo.
Sources indicate that Arsenal, alongside rivals Tottenham and Manchester City, have tabled offers approaching €80 million (£70m), when inclusive of potential add-ons, for the highly-rated forward. This has reportedly nudged Florentino Pérez towards contemplating a sale, as Alonso has conveyed that Rodrygo’s influence in significant matches has not matched expectations, leading to increased dressing room tension.
In addition to an ambitious move for Rodrygo, Arsenal are eyeing an acquisition of midfielder Etta Eyong from Levante, with reports signalling a willingness to meet the player’s €40 million (£35m) release clause. The Spanish media suggests that the Gunners see Eyong as a valuable addition, citing his robust performances and adaptability in midfield as the factors underpinning their interest.
As Arsenal manoeuvre through this double transfer pursuit, they aim to solidify both their immediate tactical depth and long-term aspirations, positioning themselves to challenge on multiple fronts this season.
