Amidst an exciting summer transfer window, Newcastle United have reportedly placed a staggering British transfer record price on their star forward, Alexander Isak, as they entertain the notion of his potential move to Liverpool, according to insiders.
Liverpool, keen on bolstering their attacking options after Darwin Nunez’s diminished role under new manager Arne Slot, have identified Isak as a prime target. Despite already securing signings such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez, the Reds’ management appears eager to invest further in their squad.
Well-known transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Liverpool have made a formal approach to Newcastle for Isak, tabling what is suggested to be a record-breaking bid. Romano stated: “Exclusive: Liverpool have initiated club-to-club discussions with Newcastle regarding a record bid for Alexander Isak. Should Isak remain off the table, Liverpool are poised to pursue Ekitike. The ball is in Newcastle’s court as they initially had no intention of parting with Isak and even intended to offer a new contract.”
This development follows news that Newcastle have lodged an official bid for Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt, with both Liverpool and Manchester United expressing interest in the player. Romano tweeted: “Exclusive: Newcastle have submitted an official bid to Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike, surpassing the €70m mark previously made by another club. Talks are ongoing as Newcastle aim to finalise the deal.”
Another update from transfer journalist Ben Jacobs highlighted that Newcastle have sent a delegation to Germany to negotiate directly with Frankfurt regarding Ekitike. Jacobs noted: “Newcastle’s delegation is in Germany for Ekitike talks, with confidence that his €100m price will decrease as the window progresses. NUFC waited until July due to the financial calendar and their long-standing interest since his PSG days.”
These developments could pave the way for Liverpool to secure Isak after Newcastle initially deemed him indispensable following their Champions League qualification. Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri has asserted that Newcastle’s stance on Isak has softened after progressing in talks for Ekitike: “In June, Isak was considered unsellable, but Newcastle have since reconsidered. With Ekitike discussions advancing, the £120 million price tag for Isak is now on the table.”
Liverpool fans will be watching closely as negotiations unfold, with hopes of adding Isak to their formidable attacking lineup in the quest for Premier League and European glory.
