Manchester City have tied down winger Savinho to a bumper new contract that will keep him at the Etihad until 2031.
The 21-year-old Brazilian star has agreed a two-year extension in a massive show of faith from the Premier League champions. He first arrived from French side Troyes in 2024 for £30.8million and has already made a big impact under Pep Guardiola.
Since landing in Manchester, Savinho has pulled on the City shirt 54 times, chipping in with four goals and laying on 12 assists. His blistering pace and fearless attacking runs have quickly made him one of Guardiola’s most trusted wide players.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, the Brazilian said he was honoured to commit his long-term future to the club. “I am incredibly proud to be able to sign this new contract with City. It is a very special feeling to know Pep and the club have placed such faith in me. It really means a lot to me and my family.”
City’s determination to keep Savinho was clear last summer when Tottenham made a move to lure him away. The Londoners opened talks but were told in no uncertain terms that he was not for sale.
The winger admitted he still has plenty of learning to do but believes he is in the right place to reach the very top. “I feel I have so much improving to do. I am still young and hungry to keep learning. But I know that working with Pep and his staff will help me to keep developing as a player.”
Guardiola is convinced his young forward has the tools to become a world-class star. The manager said last month: “For the players up front it is always about numbers. Savinho created a lot last season but in the final third he was a little bit too hectic. The moment he learns that he will be a top-class player. He can play on both wings, he has the speed and he has the work ethic.”
City’s director of football Hugo Viana echoed that belief. “Savinho is still very young but he has already demonstrated that he possesses the qualities needed to become a truly outstanding player.”
The new contract continues City’s push to lock down their brightest prospects. Academy graduate Nico O’Reilly and full-back Rico Lewis have also penned fresh deals in recent weeks.
Savinho, who already has 13 Brazil caps and one goal for his country, will now be part of City’s long-term plans as they look to dominate English and European football for years to come.
