In a bold move to fortify their ranks, Chelsea are reportedly plotting a daring raid on Barcelona for three of the Catalan side’s standout players. According to reports emanating from Spain, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is personally spearheading a campaign to prise star names away from the Spanish giants, with a whopping €250 million bid in the offing.
Since taking over the reins of the Premier League club in 2022, the American businessman Boehly has become known for his proactive approach, often demonstrating a willingness to shell out substantial sums for top-tier talent. Chelsea has already invested £1.5 billion in bringing 37 first-team players to Stamford Bridge, a testament to Boehly’s ambitious vision.
Despite this massive outlay, the silverware returns have been modest, with just the UEFA Conference League and 2025 FIFA Club World Cup to show for their efforts. However, these setbacks appear to have done little to deter Boehly’s appetite for further investment. The Catalan media reports that he is now casting his gaze upon Barcelona in an attempt to ‘dismantle’ the side by targeting three pivotal figures: defender Jules Kounde, midfielder Dani Olmo, and winger Raphinha.
Kounde, a versatile defender capable of slotting in both at centre-back and right-back, is reportedly available for €65 million. While not currently enjoying his best form, his pedigree is undisputed, having made 181 appearances for Barcelona and signed up with them until 2030.
Midfield maestro Dani Olmo, also tied to a long-term contract until 2030, has found himself gradually sidelined at the Spotify Camp Nou. With Barcelona keen on generating funds, Boehly’s interest could see the former RB Leipzig and Dinamo Zagreb star making the switch to West London.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Raphinha—among the premier wingers on the global stage—marks a notable interest. The Brazilian international, previously linked with Chelsea before opting for Barcelona from Leeds United in 2022, boasts a commendable record of 68 goals and 56 assists from 171 outings with the Blaugrana, under contract with them until 2028. To facilitate his return to the Premier League, Boehly is apparently prepared to make an investment of substantial size.
While the prospect of another extensive transfer splurge beckons, Chelsea supporters remain hopeful that future signings deliver success comparable to their financial expenditure, erasing past underwhelming returns in England’s top-flight competitions.
