Liverpool have reportedly reached a pivotal decision concerning academy graduate Curtis Jones, who has been heavily linked with a potential move to Italian giants Inter Milan. Jones has attracted attention from various clubs this month, but Liverpool seem reluctant to part ways with him during this transfer window.
Despite appearing 29 times in all competitions this season, Jones has managed just ten starts in the Premier League. Earlier in the month, Tottenham Hotspur expressed interest in the young midfielder before turning their attention to Conor Gallagher. Nevertheless, Inter Milan remain keen on securing Jones’ services.
Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed details of a proposed deal involving Jones, with Inter having engaged Liverpool in discussions last Friday. The Italian side proposed a loan deal with an option to purchase for €40 million, covering both the loan fee and the player’s salary. However, Liverpool have yet to signal any approval for this agreement.
Romano elaborated, stating: “Inter want this deal, but Liverpool, facing some injury concerns, have not yet given the go-ahead. The decision ultimately lies with Liverpool.”
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has since indicated that Jones has agreed to the terms and is waiting for Liverpool’s approval. Di Marzio stated: “The player has given the green light to the loan, accepted the financial terms, and is awaiting the Reds’ final decision.”
This move could potentially facilitate the departure of Inter’s Davide Frattesi, who is reportedly pursued by Nottingham Forest.
Nonetheless, a contradictory report from Graeme Bailey of TEAMtalk suggests that Liverpool’s hierarchy have already decided against letting Jones leave, emphasising his importance to the squad. Bailey said, “Senior figures at Anfield have clarified that Jones remains crucial to the team, and Liverpool have no plans for significant departures at this point in the season.”
As Liverpool’s season progresses into a critical phase, it appears increasingly unlikely that they will sanction a move for Jones, prioritising their current squad depth.
