Crystal Palace are in the midst of a managerial pursuit, reportedly making approaches for two prospective candidates to step into the shoes of Oliver Glasner, who is set to depart Selhurst Park at the end of the current campaign.
Since taking the helm in early 2024, Glasner has transformed Palace’s fortunes, securing a record 41 wins from 95 fixtures across all competitions. Under his stewardship, the Eagles soared to unprecedented heights, clinching the FA Cup last season and achieving European qualification for the first time in their storied history.
However, with Glasner’s reputation burgeoning, the inevitability of his departure in 2026 cannot be overstated as top-tier clubs have shown considerable interest. He is tipped as the frontrunner for the managerial post at Manchester United, with rumoured links to both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur further intensifying the chatter.
In a blow to the Palace faithful, Glasner confirmed in a press briefing on Friday that he will indeed vacate his position come season’s end. Simultaneously, Palace captain Marc Guehi edges closer to a move to Manchester City, marking a challenging period for the South London club.
Glasner remarked, “A decision was made months ago in a meeting with Steve [Parish] over the international break in October. After a lengthy discussion, I informed him of my decision not to renew my contract, and we kept it between ourselves to maintain confidentiality. But now clarity is paramount as Steve and I strive for what’s best for Crystal Palace.”
Amidst speculation regarding his next career chapter, Glasner expressed, “I am seeking a new challenge. I’ve not engaged with any outside clubs and have assured the players that my focus remains on delivering the best season in Crystal Palace’s storied history.”
Journalist Ben Jacobs disclosed on social media platform X that Palace had initiated their search for Glasner’s successor last year. He revealed that the club had approached Iñigo Pérez from Rayo Vallecano and Pepe Bordalás of Getafe. Although Liverpool-linked Liam Rosenior was also under consideration, he has since taken a role at Chelsea.
In conclusion, while the impending departure of their visionary leader denotes a significant loss, Palace’s proactive search strategy paves the way for a smooth transition, aimed at sustaining the club’s recent successes and ambitions on both domestic and European fronts.
