Manchester United have decided to alter their managerial search strategy with Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner falling out of favour, while Thomas Tuchel and Roberto De Zerbi have emerged as the leading candidates to replace interim manager Michael Carrick.
Carrick, the former Middlesbrough boss, was appointed to steer the ship until the end of the current season following Ruben Amorim’s departure. However, the club is keen on securing a more experienced and illustrious name ahead of the next campaign, particularly due to the summer’s expiring contracts and post-World Cup manager market, which are set to offer enticing options.
Initially tipped as the front-runner, Palace’s Glasner has seen his prospects decline despite his successful tenure at Selhurst Park. The Austrian has already announced his intent to depart the Eagles when his contract concludes at the season’s end, seeking new challenges after making history with the club.
Glasner stated: “I am looking forward to a new challenge. I haven’t spoken to other clubs yet, and I have promised my players that I’ll do everything to make this season one to remember for Palace.”
Meanwhile, England’s Thomas Tuchel and Marseille’s Roberto De Zerbi are now touted as United’s preferred choices. Interest in PSG’s Luis Enrique appears to be waning as the Spaniard has shown little enthusiasm for the Old Trafford role, understandable given his current commitments at Parc des Princes.
Former United defender Jaap Stam believes Enrique would be an excellent match for the club, indicating his potential suitability as they search for a long-term visionary. Despite this, prising Enrique away from Paris might prove difficult, especially with the manager reportedly content in his current position.
As United continue their hunt for the perfect managerial fit, the decision in the coming months could shape the Red Devils’ future, marking a critical juncture in their quest to return to former glories.
