Nottingham Forest have emerged as serious contenders in the chase for ex-Chelsea talisman Tammy Abraham, currently eyed by Aston Villa as well. The 28-year-old striker, who honed his skills at Chelsea and once dazzled as a loanee at Villa Park, has been plying his trade in Europe for the last half-decade.
Having joined AS Roma for the 2021/22 campaign, Abraham made a name for himself with an impressive tally of 27 goals across all competitions during his maiden season. However, he failed to replicate that form in subsequent seasons and, following an arduous recovery from an ACL injury, found himself on loan spells at both AC Milan and Besiktas.
Currently contracted with Turkish heavyweights Besiktas, Abraham has rediscovered his scoring prowess, netting 13 times in 25 appearances this term. Speculation is rife that a return to the Premier League could be on the horizon for the England international.
Recent developments have highlighted Aston Villa as the frontrunners for Abraham’s signature, as they seek to bolster their attacking ranks following Donyell Malen’s move to AS Roma. Renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has affirmed the possibility of Abraham donning Villa colours, noting that personal terms pose no hurdle for the Midlands club. However, a deal between Villa and Besiktas remains in the balance.
In a fresh twist, Nottingham Forest have thrown their hat into the ring, as reported by Turkish journalist Ertan Süzgün. Forest appear ready to match Abraham’s personal demands, although Sean Dyche’s side may find their efforts thwarted, with Abraham’s heart seemingly set on a Villa return.
As Süzgün remarked, “The team entering the race is Nottingham Forest! Forest has indicated that they can meet Abraham’s personal terms. His first preference for a potential return to England is none other than his former club, Aston Villa.”
Amidst the transfer buzz, Villa’s head coach, Unai Emery, kept his cards close to his chest, emphasising his primary focus on the upcoming fixture against Everton. Yet he acknowledged the importance of transfer dealings and hinted at potential movements in light of Malen’s departure.
Commenting on Malen’s transition to Roma, Emery explained, “It’s a tough decision but it makes sense. While I valued his contributions, the decision works well for all parties involved. Ultimately, it was crucial to respect the player’s desires and ensure the club’s interests align.”
As the transfer window frenzy heats up, the battle for Abraham’s signature continues, with both Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa keen to secure the services of the prolific marksman.
