Manchester United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, has shed light on the club’s perspective surrounding potential squad changes in the January transfer window. Despite being linked with several high-profile targets aimed at strengthening specific positions, especially in midfield, Amorim has made it clear that the Red Devils will not be pursuing new signings this month.
Following a productive summer transfer window, during which United invested approximately £230 million to acquire talents such as Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Senne Lammens, expectations have been high. These acquisitions have undeniably bolstered the squad, yet certain areas remain a cause for concern.
Amorim addressed the media on Friday, stating, “The transfer window is not going to change, we have no conversation to have any change in the squad. There is a process, there is an idea – that is going to continue. We are near places of the Champions League but we are also near eight teams behind us, so let’s focus on the next game.”
When questioned about player departures, Amorim confidently replied, “No, none of them. I don’t expect them to come to me to ask [to leave].”
The Portuguese manager also expressed a sense that United should possess more points than their current tally of 30 from 19 games. “I think we are playing better, when we have the full squad we are clearly attacking better, we’re not good enough in the details. We always want more and we should have more points in the table.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming match against Leeds United, Amorim acknowledged the fierce rivalry, stating, “I heard that it’s a big derby, great environment, big rivalry, but every game in the Premier League is so tough. It’s one more game, I know it means a lot to the fans but we need to go there and try to win.”
He further reflected on the unique challenges of managing in English football, remarking, “When you play for Manchester United you need to be ready for everything. You guys have the best league in the world, every game you see there is a lot of draws, you never understand what is going to happen at the end of that week.”
Thus, as the excitement of the January window swirls around football fans, Manchester United appears focused on maintaining stability and continuity under Amorim’s leadership.
