Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly setting their sights on an Ivorian talent and a Manchester City youngster as they prepare to fill the void left by Brennan Johnson, who is set to depart following a £35 million agreement.
While Spurs boast several attacking options, none have firmly claimed the left-wing role throughout the season. Randal Kolo Muani, Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, and Johnson himself have all had stints in the position. However, it has emerged that the north London outfit are prepared to part company with the Welsh international, having reached a £35 million deal with Crystal Palace for his transfer. The move is pending Johnson’s approval.
BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel corroborates these reports, noting that while Johnson has yet to formalize his departure, Tottenham are actively seeking a new attacking recruit to potentially take his place.
Among the names under consideration is Ivorian winger Yan Diomande, currently plying his trade with RB Leipzig, and Savinho from Manchester City. Although Spurs expressed considerable interest in Savinho over the summer, City manager Pep Guardiola was keen to retain him.
Tottenham aren’t alone in their pursuit of Diomande, who’s drawn attention with his seven goals and four assists this season. Playing for the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), where his nation currently tops their group, Diomande has dazzled with his performances.
Should the Ivory Coast advance further in the tournament, Diomande would only rejoin Leipzig in late January. Still, his potential transfer remains a hot topic. Alongside Spurs, Manchester United and Liverpool are also rumoured to be keen on the 19-year-old’s signature, though a move might not happen immediately.
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has highlighted Diomande’s prowess, stating: “Yan Diomande, winger at RB Leipzig, is impressing at the AFCON. He possesses speed, dribbling skills, and great potential. Both Manchester United and Tottenham have dispatched scouts to observe him as part of several clubs closely monitoring the young star.”
Leipzig, bolstered financially by substantial sales in the summer, may prefer to retain Diomande for another season, but as transfer narratives develop, the Ivorian remains a player to keep an eye on.
In further Tottenham stories, Bayern Munich have reportedly made informal inquiries regarding a Spurs stalwart, while Crystal Palace are advancing their efforts to secure a Tottenham forward. Meanwhile, speculation about Tottenham targeting Goretzka has been refuted, with insights from an insider revealing an intervention by Vincent Kompany.
