Avram Glazer and his family are reportedly seeking to part ways with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, despite resistance from INEOS. Reports suggest that while the Glazers advocate for his replacement, INEOS wishes to maintain his position.
In October, Manchester United achieved three consecutive victories, sparking hopes that Amorim could turn the club’s fortunes following a challenging inaugural season at Old Trafford. However, a 1-1 draw against West Ham has left the Red Devils in eighth place in the Premier League standings. With European qualification imperative this season, tension brews at the club.
The Glazer family had put Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS at the helm of the club’s football operations following Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 27.7% stake in February 2024. However, a reliable source on social media, comprising of five elite reporters and boasting 686,000 followers, asserts that the Glazers are not satisfied and are keen to see Amorim step aside.
It is believed that INEOS and Ratcliffe wish to demonstrate more patience with the Portuguese manager. Yet, the impact of Amorim on the club’s ‘business model’ is prompting the Glazers to consider a managerial change.
The source stated: “Exclusive. The Glazers are not pleased. A high-level meeting is imminent. Fan groups have reached their limit. The Glazers are stepping in to address growing concerns, particularly regarding manager Ruben Amorim.”
“With INEOS leaning towards affording him more time, as majority owners, the Glazers are looking for a change, according to sources. They are worried Amorim’s performance jeopardises the club’s business operations, especially with Champions League qualification on the line this season.
“Tensions are elevated at @ManUtd, and the Glazers believe a new manager could steer things differently. Despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS holding minority control of the football side, as majority owners, the Glazers feel the need to intervene in the manager’s future. A pivotal meeting awaits, where decisive actions regarding the club’s direction are critical. Pressure mounts from the fans.”
In recent developments, Paul Scholes and others have questioned Amorim’s handling of Kobbie Mainoo, with former Man United defender Paul Parker expressing concerns for the England international. Parker highlighted the importance of Mainoo receiving adequate playing time and the ramifications it could have if the youngster were to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Parker mentioned: “Mainoo must be frustrated. The manager robbed him of a World Cup opportunity. There’s no chance he’s leaving, but if he does, the club needs to prevent another McTominay situation. Mainoo’s departure and subsequent success elsewhere would only raise further questions about Amorim and United.”
The young talent is lauded as one of the brightest prospects to emerge from United in years, and the club must find a way for him to prosper within the team.
