Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a significant move to snatch Real Madrid’s Brazilian star Rodrygo, as they prepare to stave off competition from Chelsea for the forward’s signature.
Following a busy summer window that saw Spurs bolster their ranks for an ambitious return to the Champions League, the North London outfit remain active in the transfer market. Among their summer acquisitions were Xavi Simons, Randal Kolo Muani, Mohammed Kudus, and Joao Palhinha, collectively contributing to a much-improved squad compared to last season.
Under the stewardship of Thomas Frank, Spurs have enjoyed a promising start to their 2025/26 campaign, putting themselves in contention for European qualification once more. Nonetheless, Frank’s side is still looking to address certain frailties in their attacking lineup during the upcoming transfer window.
Rodrygo, who has struggled for game time at Real Madrid since the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, has become a prime target for Spurs. Reports from Fichajes suggest that a £70 million bid from Tottenham has already been tabled for the 24-year-old, with both clubs now engaged in discussions. Spurs are reportedly keen on integrating the Brazilian into a dynamic attacking trio alongside James Maddison and Xavi Simons.
Meanwhile, Chelsea remain in “direct contact” over a potential deal for Rodrygo. However, Tottenham’s proactive approach highlights their determination to secure the services of a player capable of elevating their attacking prowess.
This development arises amidst the uncertainty surrounding Richarlison’s future at Tottenham. The forward, often criticised, found himself at the centre of controversy following his exuberant celebration after scoring what he believed to be a decisive goal at the weekend, only for Matthijs de Ligt to dramatically equalise for Manchester United during the extended injury time. Richarlison’s antics, including removing his shirt, drew ire from footballing icon Gary Lineker, who labelled the celebration as “daft” and unnecessary given the circumstances.
Such actions have intensified speculation around Richarlison’s potential departure this January, paving the way for Rodrygo’s potential arrival as an exciting replacement in Spurs’ attack.
