Manchester United have reportedly made an offer for a player on Arsenal’s radar, with yet another potential signing contingent upon a significant factor. The summer transfer window saw the Red Devils undertaking an extensive revamp of their squad, in an effort to recover from a dismal 2024/25 campaign that saw them plummet to 15th in the Premier League and end without a trophy.
Head coach Ruben Amorim, seeking to instill his preferred 3-4-3 formation, received considerable support in the form of new recruits such as Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Senna Lammens, culminating in a £230 million spending spree. However, doubts remain about these acquisitions, as United continue to lag behind in the quest for major silverware.
The report, sourced from Spanish outlet Fichajes, claims Manchester United have tabled a bid for Porto’s emerging star, Victor Froholdt. Although the bid’s specifics are undisclosed, the Danish midfielder’s contract with the Portuguese side includes an £85 million (€85 million) release clause. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly pursuing the 19-year-old, who joined Porto from FC Copenhagen for roughly £16 million in the summer and has since amassed four goal contributions in eight Liga Portugal outings.
Described as a key future asset by Porto, Froholdt is contracted until 2030 with a hefty buyout provision, yet his rapid ascent and the interest from England’s elite could expedite a move. Of those interested, Manchester United and Tottenham appear most eager, with Arsenal recently entering the fray.
Amid these developments, United are actively seeking reinforcement in midfield. Sporting Lisbon’s Morten Hjulmand has emerged as a potential target, largely due to his past collaboration with Amorim at Sporting, sparking speculation about a reunion at United.
Nonetheless, Gianluca Di Marzio, a respected Italian journalist, notes that United’s pursuit of Hjulmand faces competition from Juventus, formidable contenders from Serie A. Di Marzio further underscores that United’s bid for Hjulmand hinges on Amorim’s tenure at the club, stating: “Regarding United, it depends on whether Amorim remains in charge. Amorim admires him, and Juventus are also keen. Last summer, Juventus couldn’t allocate €50-60m for his position due to their immediate need for strikers.”
