The Deadpool actor took his seat at the Racecourse Ground as the Dragons hosted Queens Park Rangers. It is Reynolds’ second trip of the campaign after he watched Wrexham’s emotional return to the second tier for the first time in 43 years last month. That match ended in disappointment with a 3-2 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.
Reynolds was hoping for better this time but it was déjà vu as the Hollywood megastar looked on from the stands in a white sweater while his team trailed 2-0 at half time.
The actor’s day began on a brighter note as he made a surprise visit to the city centre club shop where he met players from Wrexham’s women’s side and posed for photos with fans.
The club’s return to the Championship has been turbulent. A first league win finally arrived away at Millwall just before the international break but results at home have been far harder to come by.
Reynolds and fellow co owner Rob McElhenney have backed manager Phil Parkinson with heavy spending. Thirteen new arrivals were secured in the summer window with three last gasp Deadline Day deals. Ben Sheaf came in for £6.5million from Coventry, defender Dom Hyam cost £2.7million from Blackburn, while Manchester City’s Issa Kabore joined on loan.
During his last visit Reynolds explained the ownership model. He told Sky Sports that he and McElhenney keep out of football decisions and focus on supporting the squad. Reynolds said their role is to listen, learn and help tell the Wrexham story.
That approach, he added, has allowed the pair to forge personal relationships with every player in the squad something unusual in football ownership.
Now Reynolds will be desperate to see those bonds turn into points as Wrexham fight to establish themselves in the Championship spotlight.
