Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle United’s Swedish forward, Alexander Isak, is tied to a complex ‘house-sale chain’ of transfers which could hold the key to his move to Merseyside. The Reds, having already bolstered their squad with the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Giovanni Leoni, are keen to add Isak to their ranks before the transfer window’s closure. They are also eyeing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as a priority.
Sacha Tavolieri reports that Newcastle have communicated with Liverpool and Isak’s agents that a deal could materialise following their agreement with Germany’s Nick Woltemade. Liverpool are anticipated to make a £130 million bid imminently, with Eddie Howe ostensibly giving the green light due to Woltemade’s arrival as Isak’s replacement.
However, according to BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel, multiple factors need aligning before Isak’s ambition of an Anfield switch can be realised. Newcastle’s transfer dealings are seemingly part of a broader chain involving Stuttgart’s Woltemade, Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, and Borussia Dortmund’s Max Beier. The signing of Woltemade appears to be merely the opening act, with the Magpies needing to secure another striker, potentially Wissa, to fully facilitate Isak’s departure.
The third crucial domino is for the clubs to agree on terms, as Newcastle’s ongoing efforts to recruit two forwards point to their readiness to sanction Isak’s sale. Howe remains coy about Isak’s future, emphasising his lack of control over the dealings while focusing on reinforcing his squad. Howe’s recent comments also dismiss any notion of broken promises to players regarding their transfers.
As these transfer negotiations unfold, Liverpool are poised to strike rapidly to bring Isak to Anfield, adding a final piece to their summer transfer jigsaw.
Further developments are anticipated, with Crystal Palace reportedly ready to entertain a new bid from Liverpool for Marc Guehi.
