In the ever-evolving transfer saga surrounding Manchester United, manager Ruben Amorim remained tight-lipped about the club’s pursuit of Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens. Despite whispers of a deal close to being sealed, Amorim declined to commit to whether any new arrivals between the sticks were contingent on departures.
The Portuguese gaffer expressed contentment with his current trio, Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir, and Tom Heaton, but with Lammens reportedly nearing personal terms, Amorim was quizzed on the necessity of player exits to facilitate incomings. “It’s not an idea that these guys are going to leave, to play in a different club, and then we’ll receive another player,” he stated enigmatically. “We don’t know what is going to happen, but we’re not waiting to take out someone to get another.”
As negotiations continue, the fee for Lammens, who has been on United’s radar since December, is expected to be around £17 million. United’s goalkeeping conundrum intensified last weekend with Onana out injured and Bayindir faltering against Arsenal, leaving Heaton, now 39, as the stalwart option.
While Amorim preferred to keep his cards close regarding reinforcements, he was more forthcoming about the ‘bomb squad’ scenario at Old Trafford. Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are still training away from the main group, facing an ultimatum to decide their futures.
“It’s clear they want to play in a different club,” Amorim admitted. “We try to arrange everything for both parts to be happy. I have to train with the guys I believe are the future, while others prepare for their next chapter.”
As the transfer window narrows, the United boss provided an update on team news for the coming weekend clash. “Onana is ready to play like last week, so we will see in the game who is going to be the goalkeeper. Licha is out, Nous is out. The rest of the guys are fit,” he revealed.
With the rebuilding process in full swing, Amorim may be playing it coy, but the fifth addition to United’s summer signings seems imminent.
