Manchester City have reportedly dismissed a £60 million proposal from Tottenham Hotspur for their promising Brazilian winger, Savinho. Over the last week, Tottenham have intensified their pursuit of the 21-year-old star as manager Thomas Frank seeks to enhance his attacking lineup.
Having made a move to City from FC Troyes the previous summer, Savinho showed significant promise during loan spells with PSV Eindhoven and Girona, crucially aiding the latter’s qualification for the Champions League in the 2023/24 season. During his inaugural year at the Etihad, Savinho made an impact by tallying three goals and 13 assists across all competitions.
Despite a somewhat uneven performance in the following season, Spurs have shown steadfast interest in Savinho, along with Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze. As reported by David Ornstein, Spurs have initiated conversations with Manchester City, and Savinho has expressed willingness to make the switch.
Initial discussions revolved around a £43.3 million deal, however, reports from Ge Globo indicate that an opening offer by Tottenham of £60 million has been turned down. It appears Tottenham have proposed a sum of €70 million, yet this initial bid was unsuccessful in securing a deal with Pep Guardiola’s squad. Nevertheless, negotiations are ongoing.
Intent on landing the Brazilian winger, Tottenham plan to make an improved offer, with assurances of more playing time leading up to the World Cup. Savinho’s representatives recently arrived in England to advance talks, with a renewed bid expected imminently. Despite the complexity of negotiations due to the sizeable financial figures involved, all parties seem optimistic about a potential agreement.
Should City agree to part ways with Savinho, they may pursue Real Madrid’s Rodrygo as a replacement. Rodrygo, who has been on the radar of Arsenal and Liverpool this summer, has yet to attract a formal bid from either English club. Arsenal, meanwhile, are concentrating on reducing their squad before pursuing Eberechi Eze, who has also been linked with Spurs. Liverpool are prioritising Newcastle’s striker, Alexander Isak.
If the deal with Tottenham materializes, Savinho could join a select group of players valued over €70 million this summer as he seeks to secure a spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the upcoming World Cup.
