Manchester United have reportedly received a definitive offer to part ways with another ‘bomb squad’ player following the loan move of Marcus Rashford to Barcelona. This summer marks a critical phase for United, as they aim for a comprehensive overhaul after an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign where they finished 15th in the Premier League and missed out on silverware.
Despite this, their efforts to strengthen the squad with signings such as Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego Leon have been hampered. The Red Devils are struggling to offload surplus players, which in turn affects their transfer strategy.
Manager Ruben Amorim has left certain players out of his plans, forming a ‘bomb squad’ that includes names like Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, apart from Rashford. So far, Rashford is the only casualty, moving to the Camp Nou on loan, with an option to buy set at roughly £26 million.
The next in line for potential departure is Tyrell Malacia, who is catching the eye of the Saudi Pro League. Malacia, limited by injuries, has seen little Premier League action since his career at United began in 2022/23, with just 13 appearances to his name. After a loan stint with PSV Eindhoven at the end of last season, a permanent move to the Eredivisie seemed likely. However, Voetbal International reports he is evaluating a serious offer from an undisclosed Saudi club.
The exits of squad members like Malacia would allow United to pursue essential signings before the transfer window shuts, including a sought-after striker and a new goalkeeper. Although Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez was a candidate for the keeper’s role, Manchester United have reportedly lost interest due to Villa’s excessive release clause, which stands at around £43 million.
This development has sounded alarm bells in Argentina, with national team manager Lionel Scaloni reportedly concerned. Martinez, tempted by lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, poses a potential dilemma ahead of the 2026 World Cup, further complicating United’s transfer objectives.
As they navigate these turbulent waters, it remains to be seen how Manchester United will reshape their squad ahead of the new season.
