Arsenal may pivot from their pursuit of Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres to Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak amidst concerns at St James’ Park that the striker’s head might have been swayed.
Negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting CP have hit an impasse, with disagreements over add-ons threatening to derail a deal for Gyokeres, despite an agreement on the initial fee. Meanwhile, Sporting have reportedly shifted their sights to Manchester United, who have tabled a bid of €80m for Gyokeres.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano provided a glimmer of hope to Arsenal supporters, indicating that Sporting are making headway in acquiring Almeria’s Colombian striker, Luis Javier Suarez. This move could potentially smooth the path for Gyokeres to Arsenal.
Romano stated: “With Sporting closing in on Suarez, it suggests progress with Gyokeres. Gyokeres remains dedicated to Arsenal, despite interest from Saudi intermediaries and Manchester United.”
Interest from Arsenal in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak has resurfaced, in light of Gyokeres negotiations stalling. Although the Magpies have declared Isak not for sale, rumours suggest Newcastle fear the Swedish forward’s head has been turned.
Eddie Howe, Newcastle’s manager, left Isak out during their 4-0 friendly defeat by Celtic. Howe commented, “I decided to send him home due to speculation. I’m confident he’ll remain a Newcastle player by the end of the window.”
The Independent suggests Arsenal may reignite their interest in Isak, yet face budget constraints, having already haggled over a mere £5m in add-ons for Gyokeres.
Arsenal’s financial strategy comes from the Kroenkes’ preference for fiscal conservatism. Despite pressure from Mikel Arteta to expand the budget this summer, the Gunners remain cautious with spending.
Former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew speculated on Isak’s situation, claiming to talkSPORT: “It looks like Isak’s affected. Eddie Howe’s decision to bench him was wise under the circumstances.”
Though Arsenal fans may await resolution, the club’s intricate financial balancing act will continue to shape this summer’s transfer saga.
