Chelsea have reportedly rekindled their interest in acquiring Alejandro Garnacho, as the Manchester United outcast turned down an opportunity to reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr.
With Ruben Amorim having encouraged Garnacho to seek new pastures at the close of last season, the Argentine widened the gulf between himself and United by sharing a photo on social media, donning an Aston Villa shirt emblazoned with Marcus Rashford’s name, as a show of support for his fellow disfavoured Red Devil.
Napoli was initially keen on the 21 year old at the window’s onset, but those whispers have since faded. According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Garnacho has opted against a potential Saudi Arabian stint, dismissing the possibility of transferring to Al-Nassr.
The report suggests that Garnacho has made it clear he prefers a move within Europe. Renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano detailed Garnacho’s ambition to stay in the Premier League.
Romano tweeted: “Alejandro Garnacho’s path is set; he wants to remain in the Premier League this summer. Though his tenure at Manchester United has concluded, his Premier League journey is far from over.”
Thus, Garnacho will likely be buoyed by news that Chelsea has renewed discussions to acquire him this summer, following the £48m exit of Noni Madueke to Arsenal.
As per TBR Football, the Blues maintain “active interest” in Garnacho, having recently engaged with his representatives, ensuring they keep the Stamford Bridge outfit appraised of any developments.
The report also notes Aston Villa’s intrigue in Garnacho, whereas Tottenham’s interest has waned due to their acquisition of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham.
