Luis Diaz has reportedly established a notable contract condition amidst Barcelona’s active pursuit of the £60 million rated Liverpool winger this summer. The Colombian international, who has piqued interest from major European clubs such as Barcelona and Bayern Munich, has emerged as a sought-after prospect should he opt to leave Anfield. There are also whispers of interest emerging from clubs in Saudi Arabia.
According to reports in Spanish newspaper AS, Diaz’s representatives have engaged in discussions over a preliminary contract with Barcelona, should a deal with Liverpool materialise. The talks have considered Barcelona’s precarious financial condition, especially after last season’s challenges concerning player registrations, particularly with Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
Barcelona was initially granted temporary licences to register the pair, but these were rescinded by La Liga during the January transfer window. Although reinstated following an appeal, the matter was not fully resolved until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Diaz has allegedly requested monetary compensation if Barcelona cannot register him by 1st of August . This demand reflects the Colombian’s hesitance to include a release clause allowing for a free departure should registration become an issue, an approach previously considered by Barcelona target Nico Williams.
Despite being highly favoured by Barcelona’s sporting director Deco, it’s uncertain whether the club will agree to Diaz’s terms. Earlier in the month, Mail Sport reported that Liverpool rebuffed an approach from Bayern Munich, affirming to their director of sport, Max Eberl, that the 28-year-old is not available for transfer.
While Diaz has expressed his happiness at Liverpool, this hasn’t curtailed ongoing speculation linking him with several top clubs across Europe. Having helped Liverpool lift the Premier League title last season, Diaz holds significant sway, with two years left on his current contract. He remains at the centre of speculation regarding his future, amidst Liverpool’s undecided stance on offering a contract extension.
The dynamic winger contributed 17 goals and 8 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions last season. Emphasising his contentment at Anfield, Diaz remarked, “Right now, we’re in contact with [other] clubs; it’s normal. The market is open, and we’re trying to sort out what’s best for us. If Liverpool doesn’t make a good offer, I would still be happy and content to stay.”
Diaz, who joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for £37.5 million, has solidified his role within the squad over 148 appearances. He also earned the distinction of being the second Colombian to win the Premier League, following Juan Cuadrado with Chelsea.
As the transfer window heats up, all eyes remain on Barcelona and Bayern Munich to see who will seal the deal for the sought-after winger.
