A fresh development at Manchester United has reportedly left four players disgruntled as INEOS strategises to offload several members of the squad deemed surplus to requirements.
Having already bolstered their ranks with the acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a reported £62.5 million, United’s summer transfer dealings have hit a snag. Manager Ruben Amorim is keen to secure the services of Bryan Mbeumo to enhance their attacking midfield options, but negotiations have yet to reach a conclusion.
Once Mbeumo’s potential transfer is sealed, the focus will shift towards recruiting a striker, with names such as Ollie Watkins, Viktor Gyökeres, Victor Osimhen, and Hugo Ekitike being touted as possible targets.
The Red Devils, however, require capital generated from player sales to fund further acquisitions, facing significant challenges in marketing their expendable assets. Notably, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia have been placed on the club’s transfer list. Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that all five players have communicated their desire to depart Old Trafford this summer.
Romano tweeted: *“BREAKING: Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, Jadon Sancho have all informed Manchester United of their desire to leave. The club has deferred their return date until later in July as they continue to seek suitable resolutions.”*
Further insights from The Athletic suggest that Amorim is keen to resolve these transfers promptly, preferring to have these unsettled players off the books before the start of pre-season training on Monday. Unfortunately for United, their desperation to sell has been noted in the marketplace, complicating efforts to find agreeable deals for the players in question. Consequently, the return of these players to Carrington has been postponed, granting them additional time to locate new clubs.
Sources indicate that this manoeuvre has exacerbated tensions, with some players and their agents contesting United’s assertion that transfer requests were submitted. Moreover, while access to medical and support facilities at Carrington might be permitted if moves are not completed by July, the prospect of reintegrating these wantaway players into Amorim’s squad has seemingly been dismissed entirely.
While potential avenues for departure exist, the progress of such interests remains tepid, falling short of the financial expectations initially set by the club. It appears that United’s efforts to enact a swift squad turnover could prove more intricate than anticipated.
