Chelsea’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s rising star, Jamie Gittens, is reportedly on the brink of completion, with a £50 million transfer fee potentially sealing the deal imminently. The young English forward has been a long-standing target for the West London club this summer, with negotiations persisting even as both clubs participate in the Club World Cup held in the US.
Despite facing initial resistance when attempting to finalise the transfer before the Club World Cup registration deadline, Chelsea has continued discussions in hopes of striking an accord soon. The Blues’ initial bid of £42 million was rejected, as Borussia Dortmund maintained their firm valuation of £50 million for their prized asset.
Jamie Gittens, who honed his skills at Manchester City’s academy before his move to Germany, has reportedly expressed his desire to join Chelsea, irrespective of Bayern Munich’s interest. The proposed agreement includes a seven-year contract, a testament to Chelsea’s confidence in the young talent.
Sebastian Kehl, Dortmund’s sporting director, reassured that Gittens remains composed amidst the speculation surrounding his future. “We’ve had one or two conversations with Jamie in the last few days,” Kehl stated. “He’s professional enough to know he has to perform. That’s also in his nature. Jamie will still be very important for us in this tournament. We’ll see what happens after that. But I don’t have a negative opinion of him.”
As both clubs are in close proximity due to their participation in the Club World Cup, negotiations have experienced a smoother flow, though an agreement remains pending.
In other transfer news, Chelsea is considering a summer move for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, a move that might create a domino effect involving Christopher Nkunku, currently under Chelsea’s radar. Despite past issues at United, Garnacho remains an intriguing option for the Blues, having been shortlisted since January.
With a resolution to the Gittens saga potentially on the horizon, Chelsea fans remain hopeful for new additions as the club aims to bolster its squad ahead of the forthcoming season.
