In an intriguing turn of events, Manchester United have resurfaced in the transfer market, potentially disrupting Moise Kean’s anticipated move with a bold eleventh-hour manoeuvre. The former Premier League forward is on the radar of the Red Devils as they look to augment their striking options ahead of the looming transfer deadline.
United, under the stewardship of head coach Ruben Amorim, have already bolstered their squad with the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a deal believed to be around £62.5 million. However, improving their firepower remains a priority, especially with Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford also being courted, as they seek an upgrade on last season’s underperforming duo, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who netted a mere seven league goals between them.
With Viktor Gyokeres seemingly out of reach due to his own transfer aspirations, Amorim’s side are assessing various options with notable names such as Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike circulating in rumours. However, Moise Kean – formerly of Everton – emerges as a more unconventional possibility.
Kean, now 25, didn’t leave a lasting impression during his Premier League tenure with Everton, scoring just four times from 39 appearances. Yet, his subsequent renaissance, highlighted by a 17-goal loan stint at PSG and more recently an impressive 25-goal season for Fiorentina in Serie A, has reignited interest in the Italian striker.
Significantly, Kean’s contract with Fiorentina includes a £44.5 million release clause, accessible only during the first half of July, making him a financially viable target. This, coupled with the imminent £83 million total package on offer from a Saudi Pro League club, as reported by Gazzetta, complicates the scenario, but United’s renewed interest positions them as a formidable contender in this transfer saga.
Should a deal materialise, Kean could well step into the boots of the departing Rasmus Hojlund, who finds his United future uncertain after a faltering campaign despite a significant transfer fee from Atalanta just last year. Hojlund, linked with a return to Serie A, may find suitors in Inter Milan or Serie A titleholders Napoli, both reportedly keen.
