In a move that might raise some eyebrows among the Emirates faithful, Arsenal are reportedly considering parting ways with Belgian forward Leandro Trossard to facilitate the arrival of Crystal Palace sensation Eberechi Eze. This intriguing transfer rumour comes to us via esteemed Gunners journalist Charles Watts.
The North London club has been rather busy in the transfer market, already securing the signatures of six new players, including the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, and Viktor Gyokeres. Yet, the whispers from behind the scenes suggest Arsenal’s wheeling and dealing might not be over, with Eze seen as a potential creative force to bolster their attacking options.
Watts discusses the rationale behind potentially sacrificing Trossard, noting the creative flair Eze could bring to Mikel Arteta’s squad, particularly in the less vibrant left eight role. “Arsenal’s current options lack a certain creativity,” Watts explained to Sports Mole. “Players like Declan Rice, while brilliant, are not primarily known for their playmaking abilities. Eze, on the other hand, offers a touch of mercurial brilliance that Arsenal currently lack in that position.”
For the Arsenal board, Trossard’s impressive consistency and versatility make it a difficult decision. “I wouldn’t want to force him out, as his contributions last season were vital,” adds Watts. “But if parting with Trossard means acquiring Eze, it might be worth the gamble.”
With Madueke being eyed as a future left-sided option, the potential addition of Eze, alongside other attacking talents such as Martinelli, could see the Gunners well-stocked even if Trossard moves on. “It would be a loss, no doubt, but one that might shift the squad dynamics positively,” concludes Watts.
As the transfer window approaches its deadline, Arsenal fans will be on tenterhooks, pondering whether this ‘acceptable sacrifice’ will indeed come to fruition.
