Tottenham Hotspur are once again making headlines with their audacious moves in the transfer market. Reports have emerged that the North London club is orchestrating a last-minute hijack that could throw a spanner in the works for Manchester City, as Spurs reportedly prepare a substantial £73m offer for City’s promising winger, Savinho. This flurry of activity could potentially set off a chain reaction in the Premier League’s transfer dealings.
Spurs have enjoyed a promising start to their Premier League campaign, registering impressive victories over Burnley and Manchester City themselves. However, their transfer dealings have been fraught with challenges, having narrowly missed out on securing the signatures of Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze. Each deal seemed on the brink of completion until sudden setbacks saw Arsenal swoop in to claim Eze, while the Gibbs-White negotiation faltered under allegations of tapping up.
Determined to bolster their attacking ranks, Tottenham are still on the hunt, with rumours swirling about their interest in Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss. The talented midfielder has been on Crystal Palace’s radar as a potential Eze replacement; however, the Eagles’ negotiations now appear in jeopardy due to Spurs’ intervention.
As reported by Africa Foot: “Crystal Palace had offered El Khannouss an attractive sporting project and agreed in principle on personal terms. Discussions with Leicester City focussed on a transfer estimated at around €35 million. Yet, Daniel Levy’s direct involvement has reignited Spurs’ pursuit, which could alter the entire transfer window complexion.”
Further complicating matters, Spurs are keen to secure Manchester City’s Savinho, having already seen a bid rebuffed earlier this month. Despite City’s reluctance to sell, sources from the Spanish outlet Fichajes suggest Spurs are looking to revive the deal with a new offer, which City might find hard to refuse.
“Spurs initially tabled lower bids, roughly around €50 million, met with a firm no from City,” notes the report. “Now, however, the North London club is prepared to significantly up the ante, potentially reshaping the market dynamics. Pep Guardiola, though, is adamant about retaining Savinho, a key figure in his plans, unless presented with an offer truly irresistible.”
The potential fallout extends beyond these clubs. Should Tottenham meet City’s demands, the dominoes may fall with City poised to pursue Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, a longstanding target they regard as an ideal strategic move if Savinho departs.
The clock is ticking as the transfer window edges towards its closure, with Spurs’ ambitions poised to drastically shape the fates of several Premier League outfits in these final days.
