Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered the fray for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, throwing their hat into the ring just before the transfer deadline. Spurs, who have already solidified their roster over the summer with permanent deals for Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel, alongside new recruits Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, Luka Vuskovic, Kota Takai, and Joao Palhinha, seem keen on further bolstering their defence.
Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano highlighted earlier in the week Tottenham’s interest in Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji. The North London club faces stiff competition from AC Milan, who are also keen on Akanji, prepared to pay a £15 million fee but still negotiating personal terms. Romano detailed the exclusive pursuit on social media, noting that both Tottenham and Milan are eager to secure a centre-back before the window closes.
However, in a new twist, Sky Sports reports Tottenham’s late surge of interest in Gomez, as AC Milan also tabled an offer for the English international. Despite Thomas Frank appearing somewhat ambivalent about securing a new centre-back, Gomez is still on Tottenham’s and Milan’s radar, alongside Akanji, who also garners interest from Crystal Palace.
Carlo Pellegatti, an Italian journalist, downplayed speculations of Tottenham placing a €20 million bid for Akanji, asserting that no official proposal has been made yet. Pellegatti remarked, “Akanji is keen to play in the Champions League, yet he’d be content staying at City. AC Milan leads as his preferred option should Tottenham abstain from formalising their interest.”
Moreover, Tottenham’s scouting efforts have reportedly ventured further afield, with Football Norge revealing the club’s enquiry about Norwegian midfield prodigy Antonio Nusa, prior to their acquisition of Xavi Simons. Nusa, reputed for his penchant for game-changing contributions from midfield, continues to attract interest from top clubs, and Tottenham recognises his Premier League potential.
Football Norge suggests Tottenham are anticipated to further reinforce their squad with a couple more signings before the window’s closure, potentially firming up their interest in Nusa as they strive to fortify their midfield both immediately and for the future.
