Liverpool face an early season setback as Jeremie Frimpong, one of their promising new recruits, is sidelined with an injury. Manager Arne Slot confirmed that the right-back will be unavailable “until the end of the international break,” forcing him to miss two key fixtures.
It’s been a monumental summer for the Reds on the transfer front, as they aim to defend their Premier League title. With seven new additions, including goalkeepers Freddie Woodman and Armin Pęcsí, defenders Milos Kerkez and Giovanni Leoni, attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, and striker Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool look to have bolstered their ranks across the board.
However, the injury to Frimpong who featured for 60 minutes in the season-opening victory against Bournemouth puts a spanner in the works. Arne Slot revealed that his substitution was necessary after the medical team raised concerns about a hamstring issue. “The medical team advised me to take him off to prevent a more extended layoff,” Slot remarked. “I anticipate his return post-international break.”
Frimpong’s absence means he will miss out on Liverpool’s encounters with formidable sides Newcastle and Arsenal. Slot noted that reserve right-back Conor Bradley is also on the mend with an injury, though he made a brief appearance recently, signalling a potential return to fitness.
When domestic play resumes after the international hiatus, Liverpool will face a less daunting challenge against Burnley, although Frimpong’s absence could be sorely felt, particularly following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure to Real Madrid over the summer.
Despite this early misfortune, Frimpong was one of four summer signings—alongside Kerkez, Wirtz, and Ekitike—who started in the 4-2 triumph over Bournemouth, and others have so far remained fit, offering some solace to the Liverpool faithful.
